Web Design & Development - the Process
Designing a web site is a process, one that can be broken into easily definable steps. By following this process, we have found that our customers enjoy the process from start to finish, and we ensure that no items, regardless of how minute or critical, are missed. Here is the basic process we follow:
Step 1: Preparation
This step begins during the sales process, and typically continues up through the concepting step, as discoveries are made and information is adjusted. During this process, our clients work closely with our team to determine what their needs are, and how they will go about gathering the necessary information and items to complete the project.
Step 2: Concept Design
This step marks the official "start" of the project, and is where we create and modify the overall style, theme and visuals needed for the new web site. During this step, we often require participation from our clients, so that everyone is involved in the finished product.
Step 3: Coding and Development
Once a concept or concepts have been approved, we will begin creating a functional version of your website, and integrate it into any applications that are necessary, such as a Content Management System (CMS), an E-Commerce Platform, or a Custom Database Application. This step of the process is the most intensive, and depending on the nature and scope of your project, will most likely take the bulk of the time to complete.
Step 4: Content Additions
This step varies in detail from client to client. For clients that are using our Content Management System (CMS) or an E-Commerce Platform, the bulk of the content is added by the client directly, with advice and assistance from our team. However, in some cases, we will be more directly involved, based on the clients' needs.
Step 5: Launch
During this step, we get the necessary domain name, email address and other details prepared, so that when we launch the website, everything is functioning smoothly. Based on the Hosting Plan, we will also determine what additional needs, if any, you will require.
Step 6: Maintenance
Just because your site has gone live, doesn't mean that our relationship ends there! Many of our most successful clients utilize our services for ongoing maintenance, such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO), to continue to improve their site and its effectiveness.
