This is a weekend for intentionality. It is a time for pause—to remember those who lost their lives in service to the United States.

According to National Geographic, Memorial Day began just after the Civil War with women tending graves of the fallen with flowers, regardless of which side they fought for. Others claim that it has more ancient roots, and since flowers have been a part of decorating graves for centuries, the month of May was likely chosen for the holiday for that reason.
